I awoke early Sunday morning to such a terrible headache. It wasn’t the dreaded type that would warrant a panic trip to the emergency room nor was it the take-2-tylenol-and-sleep-it-off kind. No, this was different. It was one that desperately needed a cold compress to the forehead, especially pressed deeply into the socket of the eyes; the one that drenches you with sweat and brings up a small glob of bile from deep within your gut. That’s the kind I’m talking about.
A short while after applying a soothing cold washcloth to my forehead I fell back to deep slumber. Maybe not deep enough because the next thing I knew I was bent over the sink, one hand on my stomach, the other clutching my head. I heaved uncontrollably, spewing all that my poor stomach held dear. Beads of sweat drenched my forehead and flowed down my back. It definitely was not a pretty sight.
Maybe that’s the end, I thought, staggering back to bed.
As I painfully crawled between the sheets I wondered what I had eaten. It couldn’t have been the delicious lovo chicken or the tasty chop-suey I ate at the huge 1st birthday celebration nor the fresh rourou at the beautifully decorated 21st birthday party. Then it occurred to me. It must have been that glass of drink. The one that I clutched clumsily as I walked around talking to people, yes the one I slowly sipped on all night, It was the same one I took with me to the dance floor, the one that I left on people’s table, that I even took with me to the ladies room. You can even see it in a couple of the photos taken that night. It never occurred to me then that this innocent looking liquid in my glass could render me helpless; that it could eventually imprison me to my bed..
And only a quarter glass?
Believe me, it will never happen again. An experience such as that will not be tolerated BUT if any of you notice another glass of innocent looking liquid in my hands…..please kindly remind the person holding it about the massage appointment she had missed and the humongous headache that is sure to follow.
HAPPY 4TH OF JULY TO YOU ALL....ENJOY BUT DON'T OVERINDULGE!
