Reading your comments,I sometimes wonder how we made it through Wairiki in the early and late 70's when you have draunimoli and tavioka for breakfast, waci and tavioka for lunch and tea and tavioka for dinner(when Fr MacDonald could not find out who ate coconuts near Balili). For a brief period those of us who did not go home during the weekend had to look for our own food on Saturday evening and all of Sunday. As a secondary school pioneer under the late Master Sakiusa Sing with Basilio, boarding life was indeed tough.Wairiki really teaches you to be a survivor and that is what most of us have been all these years after being educated at Wairiki. The 80s,90s and the 2000 students are probably the luckiest in terms of conditions. The experiences at Wairiki will probably be hard to erase but they will undoubtedly be one of the most memorable experiences in our lives.Come what may, we all had to make through. Those who gave up probably went back to utilise the land. I certainly was not going back to the village to struggle like my parents did.For those of us who have become parents, our challenge is to provide for our children the opportunities we never had. That is what I feel, though some of you may think it is a subjective issue. And for those of us who live in the land of opportunity, we must always try and give back to our school in whatever capacity possible. As St.Francis always puts it " It is only in giving that we receive". May you all have a wonderful week and loloma tu yani from Sydney.

Fr. Michael Bransfiled was buried yesterday in Suva after a short illness. He was instrumental in the Cross being erected in Wairiki in the 60s'. He cemented the graveyard of the Tui Cakau buried in Dreketi Somosomo.

May he R.I.P

It certainly leaves a scar and a memory hard to erase,to all of us that has transitted thru. PA n SAKA, paved the way, and a stepping stone for us that followed those corridors...Loloma and heaps of Love.
