DIVINE POTENTIAL
"But when Paul came to Jerusalem he tried to join the disciples but they were all afriad of him and did not believe he was a disciple. But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. " Acts 9:26-27

God knows the potential of each believer. We can project what we think God might do in someones life but we really have no way of knowing. We see only behaviour and outward appearances but God looks at the heart.(I Sam.16:7)
The Apostles were skeptical of some of those who claimed to be christians. No one seemed more unlikely to be a follower of Jesus than Saul of Tarsus. He had been one of Christendoms greatest enemy, even overseeing the murder of Stephen (Acts 7:58-60)
When Paul suddenly expressed an interest in knowing the leaders of the Christian movement, it was natural for the Apostles to suspect some devious motives, knowing his track record of persecuting christians. Nevertheless, despite the Apostles reservations about Paul, Barnabas took a risk to be Pauls own advocate.
At one time or another we may have been in Pauls position. Perhaps you were an improbable candidate to be a committed christian. It maybe that God placed a christian friend beside you to help you walk this path of faith. We need to be thankful to God for those special people that God brings into our lives, who believed in us and our potential, when others had brushed us off and doubted us.
Perhaps you stand with the Apostles. There maybe someone around you whom you have given up on, have little confidence in that they will ever be able to realise their potential.
Rest assured that if God could turn around a persecuter and murderer of christians into one of the greatest saints of christendom, He is equally capable of turning around the lives of those around you. Don't give up on others.Look to see that God is working a hidden and secret work in their lives, then join God in helping them realise their potential! It is a great blessing to be like Barnabas, to invest in the life of other christians. This is the true purpose of Discipleship.

CONTENTMENT!

"Not that I speak from want, for i have learnt to be content in whatever circumstances I am." Phill.4:11

Our world promotes dissatisfaction with our lives. We are constantly bombarded with newer & better things that will make our lives more complete, if only we could obtain them! If we listen to the world, we will always be comparing the lifestyles and possessions of others with our own and we will find ourselves very dissatisfied. If our contentment comes from material possessions, activities or people, these can be altered or removed. If our contentment is in Christ, there is absolutely nothing that can take that away.

The Apostle Paul had once enjoyed, wealth and status among his people. He had also been bound in chains in a prison cell. He had stood before a King and an angry mobs almost stoned him to death. He had enjoyed the benefits and pleasures of life and yet he was able to give them all up and still be filled with the peace, joy and contentment that only God could give. His contentment came not in what he owned or what his status was but in his unwavering relationship with Christ.

A person that is content is free to enjoy every good thing that God has given him. A person that is content, is not easily dissatisfied neither easily moved by his lack of wealth or possessions. A person that is content demonstrates to the world that their belief that God loves them and has their best interests at heart, despite the circumstances.

Discontentment stems from a thankless and ungrateful attitude, a lack of faith that God truly loves you enough to provide you with all that you need. Lets strive to be grateful for all that God has already done and for what he has yet to do in and through our lives. A grateful heart has no room for envy and discontentment.

STANDING WITH OTHERS

"Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up." Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

From the very beginning of time, God made it clear that it is not good fro man to alone (Gen.2:18) God designed us to cooperate. Throughout the scriptures, God speaks of His people as a community that accomplishes more together than separately. God did not create isolated individuals, each seeking to achieve his own goals. Rather the success of the endevour depends upon our interdependance. That is why the Lord established the church and released His Holy Spirit to empower the community of believers to spread the Gospel. In essence, we are to be a kingdom of priests (IPeter 2:9)

During difficult times it is critical that we are walking in fellowship with other believers. when a crisis hits us, it is overwhelming to face it alone. But if we have developed and nurtured supportive networks of Christian friends, we will find strength in the comfort and encouragement, advice and counsel of those who care about us the most. The consistent testimony of those who have fallen into temptation is that they isolated themselves from believers and were not held accountable by Christian friends.

If you are not part of a caring community of believers then you maybe missing out on what God has designed for you. You are also in danger of falling into sin. You must link your life with others who are seeking God's will. Seek to be a person who willingly joins others in carrying out God's assignments. We need to strive to be a source of support, encouragement and inspiration that others around us may need!

GOD WEIGHS OUR MOTIVES!

"All a man's ways seem innocent to him but motives are weighed by the Lord."
Prov.16:2

How quick we are to question the motives of others, yet we are so slow to question our own. When others harm us we may assume the worst intentions. When we are guilty we often excuse our offenses concluding that others are just too sensitive. Regardless of how we check our motives, God weighs them in his scales of righteousness. It is useless to try and deceive the Lord with our self righteous excuses, for he looks beyond them into our heart!

Is it possible to do the right thing for the wrong reason? Yes, of course! We can attend the most fulfilling worship service with a heart that is far from worshipful. (Is.1:10-17).
Could you show concern for the poor and have a heart that is against God?Judas did.(Jn.12:4-8) Could you make bold statements of your love for Christ and actually be aiding the work of Satan? Yes, Peter did. (Matt.16:21:23). Could you offer sacrifices to God and yet be in total disobedeince to Him? Yes,King Saul did (I Sam 13:8-9) Could you pray with the wrong motives? James says we can (James 4:3)

Many things cause us to do what we do. We can be motivated by good things such as our love for God, compassion, generosity and faith. Or, our actions can come from unhealthy motives, such as pride, insecurity, lust, greed, guilt, fear, hurts and offenses, anger. When the Lord measures our motives, He looks only for one thing, LOVE! All that we do should start from a heart of love for God and love for people. (I Cor1:13)

Lets take the time to look at the actions of our past to see what really motivated us. What did the Lord se when He examined our motives?

CHOOSE TO REJOICE!

Our joy as Christians should never depend on situations and circumstances that are favourable to us. Joy can only come from God. Joy can never be affected by what is outside of us. Let's never be fooled into letting the actions of others determine our joy. Our true joy should come from knowing that God Himself resides within us and He has fellowship with us, at any time at any place regardless of the sitation or environment we may find ourselves in. Real joy also comes in knowing that our sins are forgiven and that even now, He has a place prepared for us in His heavenly Kingdom, where we will spend eternity with Him.(Jn14:3) Negative circumstances can never change these basic truths.

Paul and Silas faced some of the most difficult times imaginable. They were falsely accused, arrested, imprisoned in chains, beaten and shackled in the coldest, darkest part of the prison. But they refused to allow their horrific situation to to dampen their joy!
They didn't grumble, mumble, murmer, complain or whinge about their situation .Instead they sang and prayed and encouraged each other as well as others!
God Himself was the only light in their darkness and that was enough to sing and be joyful about.

God brought about a miracle that released them from their chains but maybe the even greater miracle was that God's spirit could fill them to over flowing that they continued to have joy and hope in Him!

Lets not allow difficult events to cancel the joy of knowing we are the children of God. It's time to allow God's spirit to so fill us to the brim with His unquenchable joy that our lives will be a miracle to watch when our moments of trials and tribulations arrive....

Blessings....Have an AWESOME WEEK!

IT IS YOUR LIFE!

" For it is not a futile thing for you because it is your life, and by this word you shall prolong your days in the land which you cross over to the Jordan to possess." Deuternomy 32:47

It's puzzling that so many Christians try to live their Christian lives without daily reading their Bible, except for sporadic perusals of God's word, seeking a pithy thought for the day. God's word is not merely a source of helpful suggestions, preventative warnings or inspirational thoughts. It is Life itself!
God gathered the children of Israel at the edge of the promised land to review their pilgrimage with Him. They had spent forty years in the desert because their parents had not trusted in God's word. Their parents died in the wilderness without seeing the promised land because they had not believed God's word.Even Moses was soon to leave them because he had not shown the proper reverence for God's word. Many of them knew those who had been put to death as a consequence of their disobedience to God's word. Over the years God's word has become the most important thing in the life of the Israelites.
God commanded Hispeople to bind his words on their hearts, to teach them didligently to their children and to regularly discuss them in their homes (Deut.6:4-9). So important was the word that is was to hold a prominent place in the daily lives of the people. Our reverence for God's word is revealed not only by what we say but also what we do. Spending more time reading everything else but God's word shows the condition of our heart. To reject God's word is to reject Life itself! To obey His word is the surest way to experience all that God has in store for us.

BEING A TRUE SERVANT!

"For who is greater, he who sits at the table or he who serves? is it not he who sits at the table? Yet I am among you as one who serves."
Luke 22:27

The measure of greatness in the Kingdom of God differs vastly from that of the world. Our society idolizes the rich, the powerful, the beautiful and the athletic. We make celebrities out of those who brazenly flaunt their immorality. The world claims it is demeaning to serve others. However, God's Kingdom completely rejects the worlds measure for esteem, giving the greatest honour to the one who serves the most. The person who serves selflessly, lovingly, without complaint and without seeking recognition is highly regarded in the Kingdom of God.
When Jesus and His disciples entered the upper room, the disciples looked for a prominent place to sit; Jesus looked for a place where He could serve. As they awkwardly waited to be served, Jesus took a towel and a basin and washed their feet.(Jn13:1-15) We christians like to refer to ourselves as servants, but we are seldom content to be treated as servants. We are tempted to adopt the world's evaluation of importance. But when we look at Jesus as our model we see that it takes a far more noble character to serve than to be served.
The world will estimate your importance by the number of people serving you. God is more interested in the number of people you are serving. If you are struggling to be a servant your heart may have shifted away from the Lord. It may be time to ask God to teach you selflessness and to give you the strength to follow His example. Jesus invitation for you to help Him serve others will one day come your way. This is the time to prepare your heart, in readiness for the greatest task, Servanthood!
