BELLINGHAM, Wash. – In what proved to be a weekend of stiff competition for the nation’s top rugby teams, USA Rugby saw several surprise finishes in the final day of matches, including Chicago defeating the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club (OMBAC), 27-19, in the Cup final today in the USA Rugby Club Sevens National Championship at the Bellingham Polo & Rugby Fields near Bellingham, Wash.
In USA Rugby’s earlier matches, Northern Virginia Athletic Club (NOVA) beat New York Athletic Club, 27-19 for the Plate Championship and the Midwest had a good showing this year, with the 10th-seeded Milwaukee Team taking seventh place, beating the Woodlands Elite, 17-10. The ninth-seeded San Francisco Team, who had a great first day of competition, found themselves shut-out in the third-place game against Denver, in a final score that ended 33-0 against the Golden Gate Team.
Belmont Shore took home the Bowl, this year, after defeating the Daytona Team 29-12. And the Olympic Club beat Hayward 24-10 in the 11th place match to finish higher than their initial ranking of 13.
