Mother-in-law should give good advice when needed (not make decisions) and be able to help in any way she can to make the new family a happy one.Leave the decision making to the new couple .... remember the song "Let us make our own mistakes, don't tell us what to do ..... " we all learn from our mistakes, and that makes us stronger in the long run.

Yeah that's if you are living in your own house. If you are living in your mother in law's house then she's the one who will be calling the shots. So get married & have your own place.

well i guess mother-in-laws are just scared the "new girl" would take all the son's attention, money and all that comes with it.....its this insecurity that make them impossible to live with causing friction withing family circle that people, over the years, have accepted as a "norm".

I don't really know as I've always been a man. lol.....Ok qo na noqu nanuma ga baleta e sega ni yaco mai vale na leqa qo, so I dont have first hand info.

Both the women concerned should realise that they are not competitors...the man loves them both!! Loves Mum as a Mother and Wifey as a Wife..troubles start when one of them wants to be the sole recipient of that love. Wife must understand that Mum has been with her hubby all his life and has set ideas whats best for him - what Mum woudn't want the best for for son?? So wifey, give her time to adjust to this new phase where there is a new girl in her son's life and at the same time Mum must see the "new girl" as herself eons ago.
" After the treatment I suffered at the hands of MY mother-in-law, I swore I would always treat my daughters-in-law well!I'm TRYING so hard...lol.....some daughters-in-law are impossibe!!" If you missed that one, thats lillo, both daughter and mother- inlaw!! It is a vicious circle if you girls are not careful!!

My 2cents worth......KUA NA VIKAKU,EH!!

Happy Sunday folks....

Truly appreciative of your thread Gardale!

I commend ALL daughter-in-laws & mother-in-laws who sustain in their unselfish efforts at bridging the in-law gap.

In my opinion..it's important to remember...not to let a difficult situation with your in-laws rob you of your joy and sense of humor. Set up the boundaries of love and live by them, even if the other one keeps stepping over the line.
As we learn to get along with our extended families, we should be blessed to know that in-laws are another way God provides more folks with whom we can give and receive love.

Here 's sharin what's very close to my heart... an excellent example of the biblical model found in Romans 12:14-21. That passage offers some incredible wisdom for all in general who encounter ongoing conflicts with others.

It reads:
“Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation. Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men. If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. “But if your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

God acknowledges that there are some people who will refuse to be pleasant and peaceable. This verse is not an excuse to stop trying to show love toward a disagreeable in-law.
Faithfully with the WORD... it will set many on a good path to dealing with their in-laws in a less stressful way.

Thank U Gardale!
