Anybody know the origin of the Gonesau from Nakorotubu Ra and who are the original owner

The following is the story that has been handed down from generation to generation and this is endorsed by my younger brothers at Navatunimaravu (noqu yavu) in Nabukadra. @ Maxter --> For the record Lutunasobasoba is the great forefather of the Gonesau and saying that he has got nothing to do with us is disrespectful and insults my people and even your young generation. HE DID NOT FALL FROM A SOBA NI JAINA!! Before Lutunasobasoba passed away he warned Rokomautu (the eldest of his 5 children - Ro Malasiga, Bui Savulu, (the name of the child in Batiki escapes me at this moment) and Daunisai) me kakua ni dede i Nakauvadara baleti Degei ka ni na sega ni kilai kina na nodra i tutu vakaturaga. Biuti Nakauvadra ka ra vakamuria cake mai na baravi kei na Korotubu ka ra a sotava kina e dua na marama ka qoqoli voli. A mani kerekere na marama me vakacegu mada o Ratu ka me qai tomani na nodra i lakolako ni ira sa vakacegu oti. Suruta na vusi na kerekere oya ka dabeca kina na nodra i tini yara na marama qo ka qai kune kina na sau nei Rokomautu ni ra sa yaco e Verata. Ka qai kau nai tukutuku vei ira ni sa bukete na marama ni na Korotubu. Sa lewa nei Ratu me biu i wai na ravouvou (dra tabu/sau) me ra susugi koya na ika. Ka me laurai kina na kaukauwa kei na sau ka sa tiko vua na ravouvou oqo...ko Manamanaivalu. Ka sai koya oqo na noqu Vu ka'u basika kina o au na Qase kau tiko kei Ratu i Verata e daidai.
In 1970 we (the elder of the Gonesau family) went back to Nabukadra (CARASALA) to revisit our younger brothers. The title of the Gonesau was temporarily held by the late Ratu Mara Kapaiwai (Dewala). It was during this visit that he pleaded with us (his tavale') to take our birthright (Turaga Na Gonesau) back as he insisted was not his title to hold in the first place. Despite what you may have learnt the title of Gonesau cannot be and was NOT given by any Ratu in Fiji but was inherited.

The topic of the Gonesau is a sensitive issue for several reasons:

1. The Turaga Na Gonesau title is not to be taken lightly as it has been misrepresented since the 1959 endorsement
2. There are current issues with royalties that involves the Native Land Title Trust

So to answer your concerns about the sensitive nature of the Gonesau family the above issues are just a few to name. Your interest in my family has been noted and I appreciate your research efforts to ascertain the truth. I agree that more light needs to be shed on this topic and I pray that your constructive contribution, mutual understanding and respect will be the core platform of our general discussion. Permalink Reply by maxter on March 1, 2010 at 12:47pm: Thank you for your enlightenment well i just want to inform you that the house of Vatunimaravu e Nabukadra they are the one who are not the owners of the tittle o ira na Mataqali Burelevu and have nothing to do with the Gonesau era vakarorogo vua na Gonesau. You are right the Gonesau was inherited and you wonder why it hasn't anyone been able to be installed because there has been claims by people who claims themselves to be owners of the tittle but actually are not. A lot have died in Nakorotubu for trying to claim the tittle. You want to know why i put this Discussion on the Board because there has been a lot of stories about the gonesau and i just wanted to hear their views and claims and know how well informed they are about the gonesau. I am a direct descendant of the Gonesau from Nakorotubu my elders were the one who took back the tittle after the death of Dr. Malani and even though i was just young and naive i saw that not one rejected or opposed the words said after my elders took back the tittle this was in front of all the chiefs in Fiji present in the funeral i then took interest in researching into my family history then my elders put together the history of the Gonesau this was either done by evidence on paper the veitarogi vanua from the 1880's and past history handed by mouth from my generations and research files from England concerning the Gonesau.It took them 4 years to build the history paper which was read and approved correct by the NLC and approved and no one objected right up to the current president when they presented it. But i dont know why but there was nothing about verata and Lutunasobasoba mentioned in the history and during the years of research i get so frustrated with my elders for the many years they have kept quite about this and the only advice they tell me is "Na levu na ve auria nai tutu ni gonesau, e vinaka mo kua ni kila nomu i tutu de o qai viavia levu" i have the history research paper right now with me so if you wanna know more about it i you can have a soft copy and if you have a copy of your history about the gonesau from verata you might wanna share it its up to you maybe there might be two Gonesau after all you never know.; ▶ Reply to This
