Bainimarama is an uneducated fool thats why he does not understand what hes doing..There is no point in mentioning the british as they were doing a very big favour for the fijians in establishing the GCC.

The GCC has a similar story as the King Of Maori ..Have a look at the year the GCC was established ..1876...Now have a look at the time the Maori King was established which is in 1850..It was 20 years later then the GCC was established but the role was similar .The British learned their lesson after their experience in New Zealand with the land and wealth distibution with the Maoris owning a very tiny percentage of their own land..This resulted in the Maori chiefs marching down in unified battle and massacared the british really badly that led to the u turns in many things by the british .

History of the GCC

The Council was established in 1876 under the governorship of Sir Arthur Gordon. The decision was taken following consultations with chiefs, who advised Sir Arthur on how best to govern the colony's indigenous population. In the words of anthropologist Robert Norton, it "embodied the privileged relationship of trust and protection established between the Fijians and the British".


The british then replicated that maori idea in Fiji by the establishment of the GCC .In my view it is very sad .Fijian generation in the hundreds of years to come will be lost and confused .This is why is very important to understand our history profoundly  .

Fiji Regime To Nominate Chairperson of Provincial Councils.

Bainimarama is clearly showing the type of democracy that he wants for Fiji, in which citizens will not be required to make important decisions that contribute to their well-being. This authoritative decision making being championed by Bainimarama might serve its purpose inside a military camp, but it has no place in a democratic civilian society.

The decision for the provinces not to elect their leader is an extension of the military regime interference in the Lau Provisional Council, where Adi Ateca Ganilau was forced out of the position. The same interference was planned for the Rewa Provincial council but the loyalty of the delegates to their chief was the main obstacle to the military’s plan coming into fruition. Consequently, the province of Rewa is suffering because development is not forthcoming from this illegal government.

As a right, all provinces should have access to the development funds made available by government. Discrimination based on non-support for the interim administrators should cease.

While the motives are clear, control of the provincial council and development for the province is only dependent on the support for the regime. This is not democracy. It is blackmail and one of the worst forms of corruption. We remind Bainimarama that Kunatuba and his colleagues were convicted for a similar offence 2006.

Bainimarama should know that the citizens of Fiji must be allowed to decide who their leaders are and that must be respected. The representatives of the vanua should freely decide which persons can best serve their interests and welfare, including the economic development of their province.

There is no reason to carry out the consultation on the constitution because Bainimarama is slowly and surely building the blocks to secure his continual leadership of Fiji. 

With the control of the Provincial councils secured, this illegal regime will appoint sympathetic leaders to support their cause under the guise of the indigenous Fijians.

There is comfort in the saying, “everything that goes up, must come down.” There will be an end to this circus and the due process of law will return to judge Bainimarama and his cohorts.

We remind Bainimarama that members of all the provinces in Fiji are more than capable to decide who their leaders should be.

We urge him to stop treating Fijians as soldiers in his camp who jump at every command he makes. Rather, allow them to be free in raising their concerns through the leaders they choose for their provinces. Respect the indigenous landowners of Fiji and do not patronize them.

To all Fijians, do not accept this unilateral and unsound decision and we urge you to continue to value your traditional structures that has contributed to your uniqueness as an indigenous people of the world.
We humbly request our chiefs not to accept this decision, but continue to look after the interests of the common people.
