Fiji's Family Network
You can now learn Fijian Online thanks to Tarisi Tarisi Vunidilo's efforts. Mrs Vunidilo runs Fijian language classes in Auckland and has taken her students online.
Tarisi is originally from Kadavu, Fiji. She completed her primary education at Nabua Primary School and moved on to Nabua Secondary School, and later completed two years of high school at Adi Cakobau School.
She is married and they have 2 children. She is based in Auckland, New Zealand and have been living in New Zealand for over 10 years.
Tarisi completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of the South Pacific (Suva, Fiji) majoring in Pacific Geography and Sociology. She spent 8 months of her second year of study at the University of Hawaii as a Cultural Exchange Student in 1993. She graduated in 1994, and began her career at the Fiji Museum.
In 1996, she graduated with a Postgraduate Diploma in Archaeology at the Australian National University, and became the head of the Archaeology department. She has participated in numerous archaeology excavations around Fiji.
She then migrated to New Zealand about 10 years ago and continued her academic pursuits completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Maori and Pacific Development in 2006 and recently with a Masters in Anthropology, both from the University of Waikato.
She has always enjoyed learning and teaching the Fijian Language. Her book 'Nai Talanoa ni Lapita: The Story of the Lapita Pottery' shows her love of Fiji, its history and teaching - targeting the book for children between 7 - 12 years old.
Her teaching approach is very interactive. She expect students to be actively involved in the learning.
There will be weekly homework believing this will encourage students to do further research. before the next class. She also welcome families to learn together.
"I have the ability to work with younger children as well as adults. I always endeavour to make learning fun and interactive."
Bula Bee is proud to be associated with Tarisi and will include her classes in its Pages. Congratulations Tau!
