Fiji 7s rugby coach Alivereti Dere says the selection of his 12-member team for Hong Kong and Japan is based on his game plan to win the two tournaments.
The former national skipper says after two tough weeks of training, the 12 players withstood the test and proved they were the best to represent Fiji at So Kon Po and the week after.
“When you look at the forwards they have the height and built to hold onto our set pieces and so is the backline. So we have the variations of different styles of playing so that will add variations to the team.”
Dere today named a predictable side with skipper Setefano Cakau leading the team once more.
Included in the side are Levani Botia, Jimilai Naikadawa, Nemani Nagusa, Waisea Nayacalevu, Ilai Tinani and impressive Metuislea Talebula.
Making a return is halfback Nikola Matawalu and Joeli Lutumailagi along with Joji Raqamate, who played at the Pacific Games last year.
There is one debutant in wing Isikeli Vuruna, while surprisingly Avenisi Vasunibu has also made the cut.
Fiji is pooled with Australia, France and Scotland in Pool C at Happy Valley. Fiji’s first match is against Scotland at 9.06pm on Friday week before facing France at 4.42pm on Saturday.
The final pool game is against Australia at 10.46pm before the finals on Sunday.
Live commentaries of the matches at Hong Kong 7s will air on our sister station BULA FM with the voice of rugby, Graham Eden.
