You are invited to share and pen your ideas, views or opinions that will facilitate/assist our country back to democracy. All positive and/or negative ideas and comments to steer us back to the road of democracy are welcome.

Whichever way one looks at our current situation back home, democracy has been completely raped. The rape of democracy in Fiji is a virtual degradation of the populus of Fiji. Their human rights are being deprived:

1. the right to decide their government;
2. who they want to represent them;
3. their right to free assembly;
4. free protest;
5. free to organise into groups so that they can talk about what is pertinent to their daily lives;
6. protest on issues they do not agree with....with no fear of intimidation from anybody.

With this military regime in place, the concept of freedom per the Constitution is a total myth!

And, we, the people of Fiji need to come together and be vehement about our total disagreement with the military regime. So give us liberty or death! The reality of the issue is that democracy in Fiji has been raped...from top to bottom...left to right....inside and out and vice versa!

Here we have a military regime that talks about freedom to the people and yet the very same military regime randomly arrest people, torture them, inflict unnecessary harrassment and emotional stress to those that seem a threat to them. The military regime talks about racial unity.......the communal concept of togetherness and yet Fiji is far more racially divided today than it ever was.

The so-called advisors, viz-a-viz, John Samy, these are rejects from their adopted countries and yet they are being rewarded with exuberant amount(s) of money by these rogue military regime who have no idea what they are doing. Lying to the international community does not augur well with this interim government and yet the interim Prime Minister continuously talks with a forked tongue when addressing international issues. The ministers talk about internal securities as if Fiji is going to be invaded.

All around it is clearly seen that the economy is in tatters and the Constitution is just a useless piece of paper. The rule of law is as what the military regime wants it to be.

The above are just some of my views (from a pro-democracy viewpoint). But, do not let that deter you from penning your comments if you share otherwise.

So, let us come together and voice our views/comments, whether they be for or against the military regime and have a very healthy discussion here so that in the end we can factually understand what our role is, what we need to do and how we can come up with ideas to help restore democracy back in our beloved Fiji!

Please feel free to write what you like or dislike about the military regime. Be sincere and honest about your thoughts, without getting personal or spiteful.

Kindly note, this "topic" will expire as soon as we have an election.

PM asks Labour boss

Money Bags Pointer

‘Is Chaudhry going to declare his money in the Australian bank?’

By MAIKA BOLATIKI

The war of words exchanged between Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama and Fiji Labour Party leader, Mahendra Chaudhry, gained momentum yesterday.

This time around Commodore Bainimarama told Fiji Sun: “Is Chaudhry going to declare his money in the Australian bank?”

When this text was relayed to Mr Chaudhry yesterday by the Fiji Sun his reply was: “Are you his lackey?”

This war of words started after Mr Chaudhry had put forward a question for the Fiji Sun that was directed to the Prime Minister and Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, sent by text, about declaring their assets and salaries.

To that question, Commodore Bainimarama had replied he would “declare everything that is required under the decree when the time comes…”

However, as Fiji moves closer to democratic elections, Commodore Bainimarama is now urging voters to select faithful leaders for the next parliament.

Speaking to the Fiji Sun from the Novotel Nadi yesterday, the Prime Minister said many past politicians were trying hard to win the support of the voters by spreading lies about the Government.

“For a Government that truly champions credibility and transparency, we’re putting in place the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures) Decree 2013 to make sure that political parties and candidates disclose their assets for the voters to see,” the Prime Minister said.

Commodore Bainimarama said more lies or politics of condemnation would come and this was a ploy for survival by those who would be doing it.

Already, he said, some people were spreading lies about iTaukei land ownership.

Again he reiterated his firm assurance, not only to the iTaukei people but to all Fijians with freehold land, that their land would be secure in the new constitution.

He said work on finalising the new constitution had started.

“Our new Fiji that we have built doesn’t want leaders who hide things from the people or those who spread lies to get the support,” the Prime Minister said.

Fiji PM promises tough action on trouble-makers

From RNZI

News
Thu 23 May 2013

SUVA, Fiji --- Fiji's rime Minister of Fiji, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, says the government is not monitoring political activity but it is keeping an eye on anything that might provoke unrest.

He says the most important thing right now is to keep the peace, maintain stability and protect Fiji’s economy and jobs.

Commodore Bainimarama says Fiji’s security forces as in any country are keeping a watch and certain things will not be tolerated.

He told Radio Tarana politicians can say whatever they like as long as they don’t provoke unrest.

He says he won’t tolerate being accused of trying to steal their land or people saying Indo Fijians should be thrown out because in the Fiji context that is inciting violence.

“I’ve promised to be tough with anyone who causes trouble and I will be. That’s my solemn duty as prime minister to guarantee and protect the security of ordinary people and I take it very seriously.”

Commodore Bainimarama says trouble in the past, as in Suva in 2000 when shops were set alight, will never happen again.

@ Sireli

I don't think that I really need to continue watching this video to know that Rabuka just can't accept that he committed high Treason. He can joke and laugh, but it remains a fact. I said to a female Fijian in 1987, regarding his coup, that though there may not be bloodshed this time, there is potential for it in the future and that now a precedence has been set and whoever decides that they don't like the Government of the day, will see fit to initiate their own coup d'etat and bugger the consequences!

Sadly, I have been vindicated in my assessment of 1987.

Rabuka should have the courage to admit fault and stop trying to keep putting himself in the limelight.

Please Rabuka, come back to visit Dee Why so I can tell you face to face what I think of your selfish and insane act of Treason.

Every single person who joins strengthens our call for action. Send the email below to friends and family, and post this link on your Facebook wall:

Fiji Airways and Fiji Government: Please Stop Trafficking Shark Fin to China
Fiji Airways and Fiji Government: Please Stop Trafficking Shark Fin to China

The export of shark fin extracted from Fiji's marine environment, and that of its neighbouring states in the South Pacific, imposes a direct threat to Fiji's economy and its image as a prestigious tourist destination.

A recent report found Fiji's tourism industry to be worth some US$558 million per year. A major portion of Fiji Airways revenue is derived from passenger sales from tourists, many of whom come to Fiji to experience the country's world class diving. The same report states that the shark dive tourism industry is worth US$42.2 million a year to Fiji's economy.

A United Nations (UN) Food & Agriculture Organisation (FAO) report states that 939 tonnes a year of shark fins are exported from Fiji to Hong Kong. Up to 50% of all traded shark fin globally passes through Hong Kong, much of it destined for mainland China. This unsustainable trade has led to the direct threat of many species of sharks from around the world.

Last year, Hong Kong's flagship airline, Cathay Pacific Airways recognised the problem and took the commendable step 'to stop shipping unsustainably sourced sharks and shark-related products' on it's cargo fleet [1]. We kindly ask that Fiji Airways, Cathay Pacific's code-share partner, do the same thing.

Locally, we applaud Fiji Airways commitment to marine conservation, particularly its funding and continued partnership with the Mamanuca Environment Society and the protection of the Mamanuca Islands.
We congratulate the airline's role in preserving the environment and promoting environmental awareness through school and community programs.

However Fiji Airways role in aiding and abetting the strip-mining of the oceans, and its complicity as a link in the shark fin supply chain to Asia, directly contradicts the airline's conservation goals. This places the the newly branded airline in a highly unfavourable light. Therefore we ask that the newly-launched Fiji Airways do the right thing and adopt a consistent policy towards marine conservation.

SIGN THIS PETITION
We the undersigned ask the newly-branded Fiji Airways, and the Fiji Government, to take an important step in the country's evolution and stop shipping shark fin and shark-related products. We emphasize that the transportation of shark fin to China via Hong Kong on Fiji Airways flights is incompatible with the growth of Fiji's tourism industry. In the spirit of moving ahead into a new era as a world class airline, we respectfully ask that Fiji leave behind bad habits from the past as it drops the old Air Pacific corporate brand, and look forward to a bright future of healthy seas and a thriving tourism industry.
