"BACK TO DEMOCRACY FOR FIJI"

You are invited to share and pen your ideas, views or opinions that will facilitate/assist our country back to democracy. All positive and/or negative ideas and comments to steer us back to the road of democracy are welcome.

Whichever way one looks at our current situation back home, democracy has been completely raped. The rape of democracy in Fiji is a virtual degradation of the populus of Fiji. Their human rights are being deprived:

1. the right to decide their government;
2. who they want to represent them;
3. their right to free assembly;
4. free protest;
5. free to organise into groups so that they can talk about what is pertinent to their daily lives;
6. protest on issues they do not agree with....with no fear of intimidation from anybody.

With this military regime in place, the concept of freedom per the Constitution is a total myth!

And, we, the people of Fiji need to come together and be vehement about our total disagreement with the military regime. So give us liberty or death! The reality of the issue is that democracy in Fiji has been raped...from top to bottom...left to right....inside and out and vice versa!

Here we have a military regime that talks about freedom to the people and yet the very same military regime randomly arrest people, torture them, inflict unnecessary harrassment and emotional stress to those that seem a threat to them. The military regime talks about racial unity.......the communal concept of togetherness and yet Fiji is far more racially divided today than it ever was.

The so-called advisors, viz-a-viz, John Samy, these are rejects from their adopted countries and yet they are being rewarded with exuberant amount(s) of money by these rogue military regime who have no idea what they are doing. Lying to the international community does not augur well with this interim government and yet the interim Prime Minister continuously talks with a forked tongue when addressing international issues. The ministers talk about internal securities as if Fiji is going to be invaded.

All around it is clearly seen that the economy is in tatters and the Constitution is just a useless piece of paper. The rule of law is as what the military regime wants it to be.

The above are just some of my views (from a pro-democracy viewpoint). But, do not let that deter you from penning your comments if you share otherwise.

So, let us come together and voice our views/comments, whether they be for or against the military regime and have a very healthy discussion here so that in the end we can factually understand what our role is, what we need to do and how we can come up with ideas to help restore democracy back in our beloved Fiji!

Please feel free to write what you like or dislike about the military regime. Be sincere and honest about your thoughts, without getting personal or spiteful.

Kindly note, this "topic" will expire as soon as we have an election.

A general question, is this procedure normal in the processof drawing up a new constitution ? I mean there will be close to $2million spent on people to come and "express their interest" Every dialogue table they have set before always had one rule - and that is Bainimarama will set the pace of the discussion and othes are not allowed to ask questions or bring their own ideas to the dialogue table.

They are now looking offshore for chairpersons for the forum means they have no idea what they want from who they want to control the "discussion" - if that is the right word.

One thing is clear though, they have a little over three years to look for people, and that means funding for the so called search.....more money in someone's pocket. I suppose Brij Lal will not be offering his service as the last one he drew up was flung through the window.

This is just another excuse to spend more money and put a reason to it, if Khaiyum is such an expert on law for the contemporary Fiji that he announced, why can't he put his hand up with his inexperienced followers including his Illegal CJ and control that meeting.

It will work out well for them as there will be no opposition to the framework they will construct for the over preached reforms.

Dr. Samisoni, Dr. Narsey. Dr. Brij Lal, Dr. John Frankel will be some from the anticipating academia cell who will be eager to see where all this is going.

I would like to hear anyone's thought of how this process that is taking place on Dec 14 is relevant to the draft constitution.; ▶ Reply to This

Permalink Reply by Iceman on December 3, 2009 at 11:35am: Tiko, even if the 1997 constitution is abolished , it can still be re-activated..Bainimarama has his reasons for abolishing it, but by the eyes of every single citizen of Fiji and the world at large, this was done because Appeals Court found the Coup illegal..meaning all activities undertaken by the Military Regime from December 2006 onwards were illegal....GOT THAT ????...Na cava so na kena leqa vei kemudou mo dou accept taka mada ka process taka mada vakamalua e na nomudou mona na dina qo..It is a fact ... All these illegal decrees will be challenged again a court of law when a constitutional government is in place...If that happens, I hope you guys have enough dough to compensate people who had sufferered monetarily or otherwise because of Banimarama's ignorance...; ▶ Reply to This

We all know that but let us look back to how it was taken out (for ease of reference) because that will put a lot of light to the meaning of its abrogation and remifications to the people who abrogated it.
The Independant Appeals court had ruled that the coup by Bainimarama, and the following govt.that Bainimarama had intalled and all appointments to the same was illegal.Now tiko that alone takes all your arguments for defence of the Abrogation out.Right after the Abrogation tiko if you had forgotten that the illegal govt re instated all laws of Fiji.You got that tiko?All the laws were re instated and that means the rulling of the appeals Court stands and everything that is done by the illegal regime, govt or wehat ever you want to call it tiko is illegal.You don't need a law degree to understand that tiko, not even the law dictionary because that is logic.So you see tiko no matter what happens in Fiji when and if change really happens Bainimarama and everyone involved with him will stand trial for treason and one of the charges against them will be the ABROGATION OF THE CONSTITUTION that you are now talking about.Isn't it strange that your agument for the abrogation will be used against Bainimarama in a court of law and he will have to spend the rest of his natural life in Prison? That is a very tough way to live a life tiko, waiting for the day when you will have to move to prison for the rest of your life as Bainimarama is contemplating every day now.You tiko will make a very good witness for the Prosecution, so keep it up my friend.; ▶ Reply to This
