Ratu,
Here is one for you. What would do you do if you're stuck in a lift with Khaiyum and judge Goundar and you have a gun with 2 bullets in it?
I would without any hesitation shoot Khaiyum twice in the head.
Mike, I would do the same except, instead of two to the head, it will be ONE TO THE HEAD, AND A SECOND TO THE GROIN for f*cking Fijians.
itaukei loyalty.... http://fijiboardexiles.yuku.com/reply/27973
itaukei loyalty. itaukei character. itaukei honesty. itaukei truthfulness. itaukei faithfulness. itaukei decency.
guess it was only skin deep.
Weleilakeba cuts his own deal and turns state witness against Qarase.
it must hurt the old man from Mavana - Qarase nurtured Weleilakeba and brought him through the FHL system. took him up to that exalted position - of all the things which has happened, this one is probably the hardest to accept for Qarase. et tu Brutus ? close confidante and friend ?
one thing is coming out of all of this - Qarase is a decent man. a true itaukei. he is showing the character traits of an Itaukei - and its no wonder - Qarase comes from a clan which produced that legendry 22nd SAS soldier of world renown, Sekonaia Takavesi who led Pagoda Troop in the storming of the Iranian Embassy in operation Nimrod (Qarase's first cousin - from his clan) and the former President of the Methodist Church Rev Joseateki Koroi (another cousin from his clan).
one may not agree with Qarase's policies, but i reckon there's one thing that can be admired - his faithfulness, his loyalty, his firmness, his humility and his decency. character traits of a true itaukei. he hasn't done anything to harm anyone. he hasn't sold anybody out under preassure. he hasn't made any deal to save himself. he has remained firm yet humble.
and now he stands alone. with his convictions. to face whatever comes his way. just as the Qaranivalu did. just as Ratu Jope Seniloli did. just as Peni Mau did.
i guess its in the genes. in the blood. itaukei character. you either have it or you don't.

nothing to bargain...
future itaukei children will read about this passage of our history - what kind of legacy does this leave ?
these things are being recorded for posterity.
it stinks of hypocracy and cowardice.
nothing decent or honourable about it at all.
the only decency in all of this is Qarase's quiet and dignified equinamity
its like Mara standing at the gallow on Bau - tasting that piece of Fijian bread. the bread sour in his mouth just like those last few minutes of his life had soured - but like a true itaukei warrior he accepted his fate with dignity and resolve. he had lived his life and made those choices and now he was at the end of his cousin Seru Cakobau's hangman's rope - he had lost - and now he had to die the new way - the palagi way - with the rope - the Christian way that his cousin had now accepted, but he would go out his way. no regrets, no plea bargain. no missionary to save his soul. he died as he lived - an unrepentant heathen. true to his last breathe.
that is what itaukei call "Dina". faithfull and true
and thats a legacy. an itaukei legacy. an itaukei warrior legacy.

I think the regime is imploding and the evidence points to one step forward and two step backwards strategy. Was the Bainimarama revolution a lemon?

the economy is the key Ranawai
the economy is the key. once the economy went into disequilibrium, everything else followed.
the Essental Industries decree has happened because of two things (a) the policy decision which led to Air Pacific losing its market to the budget carriers - this was a policy decision by this Govt in 2007. the net effect of that decision is what we now see with Air Pacific today - and so they have decided that they need an Essential Industries Decree to get the airline back into profits by making everybody work at $1:60 an hour - how thats going to help Air Pacific ? nobody knows (b) the FSC fiasco with the mill restructure - and all the attendant mess with getting the wrong parts and all the rest of it - now they've got it running but its still not making money - and so they need the Essebtial Industries Decree to somehow fix it and make all the people there work at peanut salaries - how thats going to fix the FSC ? nobody knows.
but the net effect of all of these policy decisions from 2007 is what we now see here - reactionary decree by the Govt to cellotape the growing hole in the economy - and its now causing social disequilibrium within the broader society.
same thing with businesses - Chaudary's tactics in 2007 has led to a reduction of the business pie. it looked good when they were announcing all these massive collections - but what they didn't say was how they were killing businesses to extort those taxes - many of the tactics they used were simply unethical and completely counterproductive and simply illegal - i know because i have cases on these issues which are going on - and even today i can't get any headway in Court - but the net effect of what they did was that it wiped out many productive businesses - so for a million dollars in cash they wiped out a company which was rolling over probably 4 to 10 million into the economy every year - they knock over the company for a million and then next year there's nothing. its over. finito - and when you multiply that by the number of companies and businesses these guys knocked over you can see why by last year they were forced to increase the VAT rate and the various other fees and all the rest of customs duties and all that stuff across the economy - the size of the pie had gotten smaller and so to compensate they had to increase the tax rates because they were no longer getting volume - whereas prior to 2007 they had been working on a base of say 10 productive taxpayers - afterthey wuiped out 5 they ended up with 5 paying at the old tax rates which was simply no longer enough to meet the previous rates of return trhey were getting so they increased the tax rate to make up the slack.
and when they increased the tax rates it translated all across the economy increasing the cost of goods and services - raising inflation in the process - and placing a further strain on the already constricted domestic consumption segment of the economy - and now its created social preassures which they simply have no way of addressing - people are unable to send their kids to school, the cost of food has reached levels that many families cannot afford - families are struggling - its now turning from a social issue into a social problem for the govt
and what has the govt got to say about all this ? they blame it on the GFC
and so whilst they are blaming it all on the GFC the economy continues to stutter and is now getting into seriously dangerous waters - because we are at the payment end of the cycle - all those debts the govt started with in 2007 are now coming due - and we've started defaulting already - the FS one is already in default to the Indians - we have to start paying our Bonds starting this Septenber - and within the next 12 months we start paying Beijing for all the loans we took out five years ago to build the infrastructures
and this is serious because we are not making sufficent money to pay off these debts - our industries and our economy is not making the kind of money which will enable us to meet these debt repayments and have enough left over for us to continue to grow, let alone stay above water. its going to be a serious cash flow situation for us - its one thing the RBF making all these projections about growth - its another thing altogether having the cash flow to meet our obligations and enough to keep the machinery of the economy moving
the Decrees we are having now are all reactionary decrees - they are decrees which have arisen because of the situations created by the policy decisions made in 2007 and 2008 and 2009 - those situations take time to manifest themselves - there is a cycle - and its economic. we are seeing the outcomes of decisions made in 2007 and 2008 and 2009 (eg the Budget carrier decision over air Pacifics market) - and we are reacting to them by writing reactionary Decrees, knee jerk responses to complicated issues complicated by prroly thought through policies made back in 2007 and 2008 and 2009 - and the results of which have come home to roost and which we are desperately now trying to fix with cellotape solutions.

Luckily for dictator Khaiyum and his band of green idiots, the Queen of England has endorsed everything they have done since 2006. The reforms, the removal of racial biases, the equalization of Khaiyum’s and Banana’s salaries, the innovative and progressive regulations of the PER and the enormously media freedom that Fiji enjoys. On top the regime has managed to royally fuck the economy. So they have a point calling themselves the RFMF.

Leaked US embassy cables are revealing a potentially different side to the Government's views on Fiji and its military regime.
Publicly the Government has said it's hopeful of a return to democracy there but has generally avoided making potentially controversial assessments about the chances of elections occurring in 2014 as scheduled.
However a US Embassy cable from February 2009 reveals foreign Minister Murray McCully told the Americans that Commodore Bainimarama had no interest in moving towards democracy or stepping down from his leadership position.
Mr McCully's quoted as saying the commodore had settled in for the long haul.
Bainimarama: "in for the long haul."
Mark Manning: Pryde is an arrogant poofter, Gates is an egotist, Aiyaz indicative of a child abused when young, Sharon a woman trapped in a man's body, Aziz a coward and thief in Uniform, Frank a mental retard (no disrespect to retards intended) and Nazhat a Psycho. bitch with Matriarchal tendencies. Collectively, their intention is to Rule over an inferior race ( their thoughts, not mine ), devoid of any backbone, who will continue to acquiesce until all their Institutions are destroyed and their property and land, gone forever. A stellar effort, except resistance is growing !
Following the Court of Appeals ruling of 9th April, 2009, the close group of Bainimarama and Khaiyum swiftly decided to abrogate the constitution and impose indefinite self rule over Fiji. A Terrible, Lethal Miscalculation; A Huge Mistake; A Gross Underestimation!
