Breastfeeding in Public!!!

I was walking to the Suva bus stand after work two days ago and what caught my eye was the amount of mother's breastfeeding. It wasn't the fact that they were breastfeeding that amazed me but that it was with a feeling of such abandonment. They were not bothered by what other people were thinking nor were the public intimidated by that act. Contrasting scenario was the incident that happened with an airline in the states that removed a mother from the plane that was to take-off. She was told that it was an indecent display of body parts......wait a minute!!!!

Permalink Reply by Sally on February 4, 2010 at 1:46pm: I think Suva should have parents room with facilities where mums should go to, either to change or to breastfeed their babies while out shopping in town. It's up to the individual really...if mothers don't feel comfortable breastfeeding in public, look for a private place...if not,go for it...who else is going to stop your hungry baby from crying???; ▶ Reply to This

Ke ratu vakasama vinaka na town planning i Suva...mera bau nanumi tokha na marama kei ira na gone lalai me tara se plan taki e so na parents room either @ the shopping centres or where-ever. Io kajina sara ga..au kaya kina ena dui vakatau sara ga vei ira na mothers...ke o via lako i tauni qai sega kina na parents room..why not..breastfeed ga ke sa tagi na baby...ke o madua na breastfeed in public...sa toka mada ga i vale...ke sega...e tiko talega na breast pump...my sister used it to all of her children because she works full time.; ▶ Reply to This

Try look around Suva to find a clean restroom and a private place provided for breastfeeding mothers. If you know one let us know so that in future these mothers will go there to feed their babies. I am sure they will be happy to hear.

If there is none, maybe it is time when a shopping complex is built in the future, let it be known to planners to have a breastfeeding and changing room available for young mothers. This has to be mandatory to all building plans. We will have to move with the time.; ▶ Reply to This
