I was walking to the Suva bus stand after work two days ago and what caught my eye was the amount of mother's breastfeeding. It wasn't the fact that they were breastfeeding that amazed me but that it was with a feeling of such abandonment. They were not bothered by what other people were thinking nor were the public intimidated by that act. Contrasting scenario was the incident that happened with an airline in the states that removed a mother from the plane that was to take-off. She was told that it was an indecent display of body parts......wait a minute!!!!

A couple years ago this issue appeared on "dear abby". It was about a mother breast feeding her child while sitting on a bench in the park. Abby suggested that she should have gone to the park restroom and feed the child. Needless to say, she was bombarded with letters of disagreement and her office was inundated with phone calls from unhappy people who all told her in no uncertain terms that she was way off the mark on this one. She picked 3 or 4 letters for the public. I still remember in one of the letters someone wrote that breast feeding is one of the most beautiful and noble acts of nature, and no way, shud be relegated to the most unpleasant spot in the public park, the restroom. This same person continued that society as a whole was allowing gays to come out of the proverbial closet, we would all be hypocrites if we wont allow this beautiful act of nursing a baby out in the open.

Good on Fiji mothers - we do what we gotta do and I agree with Bale that this is one of the most beautiful and noble acts of nature!!!! If there are mothers who are not comfortable a little cape as Ellie has described below would work well...otherwise - go for it!!!!!

I would say go for it....I mean the very person who is so against this act probably went throught the very thing while she/he was a baby .....stop this hypocrisy act and let mothers do wat they gotta do!!!!!!

its cheaper available 24/7 right temperature (rather than rancid milk) and the issue is with those who seem to think otherwise!! I still breastfeed my 2 year old son wherever and whenever ... has never been an issue at choir practice restaurants parks etc. gets tiring and adds to weight gain every now and then but a peaceful and healthy baby is what i'd rather have then a sickly one...

Yes, thank you all for your opinions and advice.....recent studies have been done concerning breastfeeding, the longer a mother breastfeeds her child the higher the IQ. So, food for thought I am definitely going to do it to my child and besides when we think about it we are smarter then we really think we are because we were drinking our mothers milk for quiet a time. So, for this people coming up with this policy I think they didn't have enough breast milk for them to form complete thoughts.

The baby doesn't know where the location of the mum is...when they are hungry they have to eat whether in public or private.

Its one of the most loveliest of scene...very natural infact!

When a baby is hungry, regardless of the place they are in,the
mother has to feed him.And aso very healthy milk.
Go for it mothers.
